The Promising Candidate

Rory meets danger with jokes, restless confidence, and a sword he takes genuine pride in maintaining. For two years he has trained beside Azoth under Sir Garther, becoming both Azoth's closest companion and his contrast: instinctive where Azoth is deliberate, visibly promising where Azoth feels overlooked. Lady Hilda and Garther privately regard Rory as a possible Inheritor and arrange a far deadlier first test than either boy has been told.
